RULES SPECIFIC TO SPORTSMAN SERIES

(All vehicles must comply with General Rules, except where exempted in this section)

A. BODIES

         1.       Bodies must be ‘template’ style and may be metal, fiberglass or aluminum.  Cars and/or trucks that vary too radically from stock appearing bodies will not be permitted to compete.  Full bodies only will be permitted.  Maximum height of rear deck for cars will be 36 inches from ground measured at back edge of deck not including spoiler.

         2.       No open breathers permitted.  Hood must cover air cleaner.

         3.       Rub bars are allowed.  No sharp edges will be permitted.  Bars must be within outside edge of tires.

         4.       Maximum spoiler height will be six inches. Maximum spoiler width will be sixty inches.  No sideboards or wraparounds permitted.

         5.       Any and all glass must be removed.  Windshield must be Lexan.

         6.       Cars and trucks may not exceed 80 inches in width at widest point.

         7.       Track reserves the right to disallow any body style not conforming to the intent of these rules.

B. ENGINE

         1.       Maximum cubic inch displacement will be 360 cubic inches.

         2.       Approved carburetor will be Holley 500 CFM 4412 two-barrel with round hole.  Top and bottom of carburetor may be checked for 1 11/16 throttle bore and 1 3/8 venturi.  1-inch maximum carburetor spacer permitted.  No 4-barrel carburetors will be allowed.

         3.       For Ford, 2.020 intake 1.600 exhaust valves.  For Chrysler and GM 2.020 intake and 1.625 exhaust valves.  Any type of steel rod will be permitted.  No porting, polishing or deburring will be permitted.

         4.       Steel blocks only will be permitted, with maximum bore of .060 over.  Cast iron heads must be used.  No porting or polishing allowed.  3.48 stroke steel crank and any steel rod permitted.  No roller cams or mushroom lifters will be allowed.  Heads may have screw-in studs and guide plate,  and may have roller rockers.  Cast or forged flat top pistons allowed.  Headers are allowed.

         5.       Minimum allowable combustion chamber size will be 62 cc.

         6.       Number 1 spark plug may not be behind top ball joint.

         7.       No 400 cubic inch blocks will be permitted, regardless of actual cubic inch displacement.

         8.       No dry sump oil systems will be permitted.

C. WEIGHT

         1.       Weight may be checked prior to qualifying and after race. Vehicles will be weighed with driver and helmet included. Minimum weight for all cars and trucks will be 3000 pounds.

D. CHASSIS

         1.       All frames must have stock OEM front clip back to a point where frame runs parallel with the ground.

         2.       Minimum wheelbase will be 108 inches, with one inch tolerance.

         3.       Any OEM or aftermarket lower A-frames and front spindles will be allowed.  Lower A-frames must mount in stock mounts and in stock locations on frame.

         4.       Steel hubs recommended.  Aluminum hubs will be allowed

         5.       Aftermarket upper A-frames and sway bars will be allowed.

         6.       Aluminum brakes will be allowed.

         7.       Aftermarket clutches and pedals will be allowed.

         8.       No aluminum driveshafts will be permitted.

         9.       Disc brakes will be allowed on both front and rear.

       10.       Minimum frame height will be three (3) inches from ground, measured at lowest point of frame.

       11.       Six-point roll cage with bars 1 1/2 inches in diameter required.  Minimum of three bars in driver's side door and one bar in passenger-side door required.  All bars subject to track approval.

       12.       Racing shocks and weight jacks will be permitted on both front and rear.

       13.       No coil-over shocks will be permitted.

       14.       Maximum of two springs and two shocks will be permitted in rear.

       15.       Rear suspension may be leaf or coil spring.  Coil spring suspension must retain five inch conventional springs.  Trailing arms, top link, and panhard bars may NOT be mounted with any shock or spring devices attached.

E. DRIVE TRAIN

         1.       9-inch Ford floater or standard weight quick-change rearends will be allowed.  No lightweight quick-changes such as Winter Sprint, Tiger, etc. will be allowed.  All rearend housings must have steel axle tubes.  No aluminum axle tubes are allowed.  No shock, spring, or rubber devices will be permitted on top or bottom of rearend.

         2.       Trailing arms and third link must be solid bars.

         3.       Manual or automatic transmission with reverse gear in working order will be allowed.

         4.       Aluminum flywheels and small clutches will be allowed.

F. WHEEL & TIRES

         1.       No wide-five wheels will be permitted.

         2.       10-inch steel wheels permitted.

         3.       Tires - Hoosier F40 or F50 scuff will be track tire. Racing tires must be purchased from official track supplier.

G. ENGINE PROTEST RULE

         1.       Protest fee will be $500.

         2.       Only drivers taking part in the feature race that evening are eligible to file a protest.  Drivers may only protest a car that finished in front of them in the feature race.

         3.       Any driver wishing to protest another competitor's engine must present the $500 protest fee in cash to the competition director prior to the start of the feature race.

         4.       Track officials will check valve size, CC the heads, check for porting and polishing, check bore and stroke, and for flat top pistons.

         5.       If the inspection reveals the engine to be legal, the protested car's driver will receive $400 of the protest fee, with the track receiving the remaining $100.

         6.       If the inspection reveals the engine not to be legal, the protesting driver will be refunded $450, with the track keeping $50.

         7.       If the inspection reveals the engine not to be legal, the protested driver will be disqualified for the evening, will receive no money and/or points for the evening, and will be subject to suspension.
