Making a pass
on the outside coming off the fourth turn in with just a lap to go,
Keith Lovett of Williamsburg chalked up his second feature victory
of the year in the Whiplash Signs & Apparel Slammer Series at Corbin
Speedway on Saturday, October 4.
Chris Widner
of Rockholds took the lead early, and Lovett was running third on
the fifth lap until he spun into the infield on the backstretch
after contact with Ron Troxtell of Williamsburg. Both were sent to
the rear for the restart.
Lovett worked
his way back up to third by the 11th lap, but once again
went to the rear along with Jason Strunk of Canada Town after they
made contact and spun in the third and fourth turns.
Once again he
brought his Mountain Men Beef Jerky/Support Our Troops Impala No. 15
back toward the front, and got himself into position to challenge
Widner with just two laps remaining, then made the outside pass as
they came to the white flag.
Widner was
second in the Bronx Casket Company Caprice No. 13, with Strunk and
the Croley & Associates/Everlasting Graphics Caprice third.
Troxtell and
his S&B Hot Dogs & More Caprice No. 95 were fourth, followed by Josh
Hubbard of Williamsburg in the Hubbard Racing Monte Carlo No. 21,
Mark Bear of Knoxville in the M. Bear Racing Impala No. 71, Jimmy
Bryant of Lily driving the Jeno’s Service Center Impala No. 71, and
Josh Hubbard of Canada Town with the Croley Metal Sales Chevelle No.
65.
Widner was
the night’s fastest qualifier with a time of 15.548 seconds.
Although
Troxtell finished five points ahead of Widner in the final
standings, the two had previously requested that if they finished
first and second, no matter who was in front they wanted to be
declared co-champions.
“They’re good
friends, and they work on each other’s cars all the time,” explained
track owner/general manager John Davis, “and we decided to agree to
their request. They’re both good racers and good sportsmen.”
